~ MISSIONS ~

Overbrook's mission statement is "To Win people to faith in Christ, Build people up in Christ and Send people out for Christ". Using the mission statement as a guide, we:

* Plan an annual mission trip.

* Feed and support the John Marshall High School football team.

* Correspond with and relay news to the church from our missionaries.

* Organize in the Lakeside community and the inner-city of Richmond.

* Seek opportunities to share Christ and His love by helping others in need.

Cans for Christ was a church sponsored food drive for the local food bank, LAMB's (Lakeside Area Ministry Board) Basket. Members of the church went throughout the Lakeside area, knocking on doors, talking with people, and handing out fliers explaining what LAMB's basket does as well as inviting them to come and visit our church. Over 1,000 pounds of food was collected for the LAMB's basket.

One week each year, Overbrook participates in the CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond Involved TO Assure Shelter) program by hosting up to 40 homeless men for one week. With the help of other area churches, our members furnish the men with a hot evening meal, breakfast, and a bag lunch each day. This program offers the men a warm shelter to rest each evening.

Second Presbyterian Church in downtown Richmond offers a feeding program for the homeless. A few times each year, a group of Overbrook members take food items and help prepare and serve lunch to 180 to 200 people.

Each year, we participate in the Angel Tree program that provides Christmas gifts to children of incarcerated parents and also to qualifying children in our community. The gifts are purchased by church members, wrapped and given to the parents who can then be blessed by giving them to their children. The names provided by the Angel Tree Prison Ministry are an effort to keep prisoners in contact with their families.
